Pure Nickel Grades: Grades, Properties & Applications

Commercially pure wrought nickel grades (Nickel 200 and Nickel 201) offer excellent resistance to caustic alkalis and reducing chemicals.

Quick Answer

What are Pure Nickel alloys?

Commercially pure wrought nickel grades (Nickel 200 and Nickel 201) offer excellent resistance to caustic alkalis and reducing chemicals. This index lists 3 technical articles covering composition, mechanical properties, temperature limits, corrosion behaviour and welding practice for each grade.

What is Pure Nickel?

Commercially pure wrought nickel grades (Nickel 200 and Nickel 201) offer excellent resistance to caustic alkalis and reducing chemicals. Hangbo Alloy Group stocks and supplies these grades in round bar, seamless tube, plate, sheet, precision strip, forging, wire and machined-part forms, with mill test certificates to EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2.

Which product forms are available?

Round bars · Seamless tubes · Plates & sheets · Precision strips · Forgings & rings · Welding wire. Not every grade is stocked in every form — cast superalloys, for example, are supplied as master alloy ingots and investment castings rather than wrought bar. Which standards apply?

Supplied to ASTM, ASME, AMS, DIN/W.Nr., EN, GB and GOST specifications. The individual grade articles list the applicable standard numbers for each product form.

Frequently asked questions about Pure Nickel

What is the difference between Nickel 200 and Nickel 201?

Nickel 201 is the low-carbon version (maximum 0.02% carbon versus 0.15%). Above about 315 C, Nickel 200 can suffer graphitization, so Nickel 201 is required for higher-temperature service.

What is commercially pure nickel used for?

Mainly caustic evaporators, food-processing equipment, synthetic fibre production and electrical/electronic components requiring high nickel purity.

Does Nickel 200 resist hydrochloric acid?

Nickel 200 is not the right choice for hydrochloric acid; Ni-Mo alloys such as Hastelloy B-2/B-3 are used instead.

What standards cover Nickel 200 and 201?

Common specifications include ASTM B160 (rod and bar), ASTM B162 (plate, sheet and strip) and ASTM B161/B163 (pipe and tube).
